Homework
I believe that homework should follow what research shows is best for 6th graders. 6th graders should not spend more than 60 minutes on homework per night. For the students in my language arts class, I would like them to spend 30 minutes reading books of their choosing. These books can be found at home, in our classroom library, and in the school library. I will also be sending with my homeroom class monthly book orders, if you are interested in purchasing (no obligation). For students in my math class, I expect about 30 minutes of math homework nightly. If your child spends 30 minutes on their math homework and they aren't done, please write me a note on the math homework and bring it back the next day anyway. This helps me see homework that is truly practice for students (it should be!) and homework that may be a little more challenging (this lets me know how I can help students). If there are problems your child cannot finishon the math homework independently, have them skip those problems--again, write me a note that the problem was a challenge so I can intervene the following day.
