Meet me, James G. Martin
My name is James Martin. People usually call me Jim.
I have been in education for 21 years. I have taught kindergarten, first, fourth, and fifth grades. I am excited to be teaching my first year of 6th grade at Driggs Elementary!
I have been a principal in Salt Lake City School District for 10 years at schools such as Edison Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, and Riley Elementary. I also worked at the district office for a couple of years as a principal supervisor and coach.
I have a son named Jayden. He is 14 years old and goes to Highland High School. He loves to play soccer. Together, we love to go to movies, ride in the car, and play with our dogs Junior, Chuck, and Rosie.
I love to read. I spend quite a bit of time reading every day. I also love tennis, being with my family, and eating out. I love New York and plan to travel there during the fall break.
I have a Bachelor of Education from Westminster College certifying me to teach 1st grade thru 8th grade. I also have a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning from the University of Utah. Finally, I earned a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy (2008). I have a level 3 teaching license, I am a state-certified reading specialist, and I have ESL and theatre endorsements.
I am happy to be back in the classroom. I have missed teaching, and I have learned a lot from educational leadership that I think will help me be an even better teacher than I was when I left. I am thrilled to be working with such a great principal, teaching staff, students, parents, and community that comprise Howrad Driggs Elementary!
